Our FAST (Fun Activities & Skills Training) Program returns for another fun and engaging in-person activity! Join us for a mid-day full of creativity! Renowned Tactile Artist, Ann Cunningham, and Creative Activist, Rishika Kartik will lead our journey of a reading of “Mort the Mouse Goes on an Adventure.” Participants can enjoy the story and tactile pictures and join us for a critical analysis of the content and pictures. This will serve as a jumping off point to tell your own stories. Following this, we will break up into two different groups; one will be working on a writing activity, while the other group works on an illustration activity, students will have the chance to participate in both. All students who attend will receive a copy of the book. We will also have a maze set up in the gym for all to try! The goal of this FAST program is to unleash our creative side and encourage one another to get involved in hands-on and brains-on ways to express ourselves. After our writing and illustration activities (at 12 PM), we will be serving pizza for all to enjoy. Please make sure to tell us ahead of time if you have any dietary restrictions. Please RSVP by 10:00 PM on Thursday, May 20, 2021. For those 29 individuals who received their first Moderna vaccination at our walk-in clinic on May 14, this is your scheduled day to complete the COVID-19 vaccination. You are expected! The clinic will be giving jabs between 1 and 4 p.m. in our parking lot once again. Sorry, no food truck this time! More great news! Even if you didn't get the first shot in May, St. Benedict's would be delighted to give you your first on Friday. But you need to contact Maureen Nietfeld ASAP to be sure that there will be a dose for you. We've already got a list of first-dosers for this week, so that we will have a third clinic to give these folks a second shot in July. Have you ever wondered what’s in the Pool Room? How do I get to the Legacy Garden? What happens in the Braille Library when no one is around? Well, on Saturday, June 26 you’ll have an opportunity to roam the CCB and explore like you never have before. The scavenger hunt is the “Fun Activity”, but what’s the “Skills Training?” Here’s where we get to work on our alternative techniques! Everyone will be using sleepshades, canes, and all of the clues will be in Braille! Don’t worry if you are new to using these non-visual skills, we will have plenty of blind mentors to assist throughout the day. And we will be serving pizza after the scavenger hunt.
