10:30 am: What Does a Cloud Feel Like? Join us for a FAST Activity at NCAR

October 8, 2022

FAST - (Fun Activities & Skills Training) logo

We invite you to join us October 8 for a fun and educational visit to the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder. We will provide transportation to students leaving from CCB, but parents are welcome to meet us at NCAR and join the activities. We need to know the exact count of participants for planning purposes. So, please register if you and/or your student will attend. We will plan transportation for the number of students registered for the activity. Students must bring their own packed lunch.

What NCAR Plans for Us

The Mesa Laboratory of the National Center for Atmospheric Research is a historic building in Boulder, Colorado, filled with engaging, interactive exhibits encouraging visitors of all ages to explore atmospheric science, weather, and climate change. Join us for a 2-hour guided, hands-on, sensory tour where we will first explore the weather and climate exhibits together with tactile materials, followed by a short walk on our public trail through the Ponderosa pine trees behind the building. Touch a cloud, explore our changing climate, and learn what you can do to help. Feel free to bring your lunch to enjoy at the Mesa Lab after the tour.

Age Recommendation

Please note that the NCAR program is developed with 5th graders and up in mind, though all ages are welcome.

When: October 8, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. We’ll all eat our pre-packed lunches afterwards.

Where: 1850 Table Mesa Drive, Boulder, CO, 80305

Leaving from CCB

2:00 pm: What’s Under That Thinking Cap? A Learning Box activity

October 23, 2022

From the National Federation of the Blind of Colorado, the Colorado Center for the Blind and the American Action Fund for Blind Children and Adults

WHEN: Sunday, October 23, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM

(Must register by Wednesday, October 12, 2022)

Where: A Zoom link will be provided upon registration

Okay kids, you were curious about the structure and function of your brain, so here we go! Our first learning box for the year will take a hands-on look at what is under that thinking cap of yours!

There are all kinds of materials on the brain that are highly visual. But students will receive a tactile model of the brain for this Learning Box activity which they can explore and learn with. So, please join us on Sunday, October 23, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, as we discover what our brain looks like and what its different components are responsible for. The model will be delivered to each registrant prior to the lesson, which will take place on Zoom.

Please register for “What’s Under That Thinking Cap? “by Wednesday, October 12.

This educational activity is developed and presented by The National Federation of the Blind of Colorado, the Colorado Center for the Blind, and the American Action Fund for Blind Children and Adults. It is free of charge for all participants, but if you would like to donate, please visit our donation page .
