    For the students

Ellie White is passionate about dancing, and we’re excited to welcome her and our wonderful yoga instructor at CCB, Julie Hill to lead our Valentine’s Dance party this month! Ellie won a scholarship from the National Federation of the Blind of Colorado in 2021 and appeared on America’s Got Talent with her dance troupe, Silhouettes, when she was nine. She’s also a CCB graduate! Ellie and Julie have cued up some great dance music for the Valentine’s Dance Party. They are ready to teach students all kinds of dance moves. We’ll also decorate heart-shaped sugar cookies to celebrate Valentine’s Day!

    For Parents/Guardians

We promised this in January, and in February we’ll bring it to fruition!

Take part in a dynamic workshop. Meet Amira Lucas president of the National Federation of the blind of Colorado Parents of blind children. Learn about resources and opportunities that this vibrant organization provides. Meet David Nietfeld Certified Orientation and Mobility instructor. Learn about independent travel. When should your child begin receiving services? Should your child be using a cane? How much instruction is needed?

But we won’t just talk about it. Next, you will be given a cane with a blind fold or “Learning Shades.” You’ll have a lesson in basic cane technique, including how to hold the cane and how to navigate around the center. You’ll even successfully negotiate the stairs. WE will come back together to answer your questions and to plan future workshops. And that’s when the adults will get their snacks.

Please RSVP here by Tuesday, February 8th.

  • 2022 Shark Dissection With Arapahoe Community College Professor of Biology, Terry Harrison.

2022 Shark Dissection With Arapahoe Community College Professor of Biology, Terry Harrison.

    March 7, 2022

FAST - (Fun Activities & Skills Training) logo

It’s an annual thing, having Professor Harrison over to the center’s gym with several coolers full of frozen dog sharks. He will lead blind and low vision youth in the tactile art and science of dissection. It’s something that too often blind students have been asked to “observe,” instead of taking part. So, this is a hand into the belly of that beast, meaning really getting to explore tactilely, the way blind people do successfully, and get real science at your student’s (gloved) fingertips!

Oh, yeah … and we’ll have pizza afterwards!

    When: Monday, March 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Colorado Center for the Blind

    2233 W. Shepperd Ave.

    Littleton, CO 80120

Registration closes Thursday, March 3, or when our limited space is full.

And this is the link to click on for registration!
