Three of our volunteer student servers yesterday. From left to Right, Rhonda, Shirley, and Aaron serve up the cranberry sauces, the sweet potato dishes, and the green bean casserole, respectively. This is the end of the line (except for the dessert table), so by this time there’s precious little real estate on our plates!

It is our tradition to celebrate Thanksgiving as a Colorado Center for the Blind family on the Thursday before Thanksgiving, and so we did yesterday. Students started preparing the meal in October baking and freezing yeast rolls, and finished up all the cooking part on Wednesday.… Read the rest “Happy Thanksgiving 2022!”

  • Thank You for Our Best Colorado Gives Day, EVER! #Gratitude

Give Where You Live - Colorado Gives Day December 7 2021

Give Where You Live - Colorado Gives Day December 7 2021

This December 7 you surpassed previous years with your support for the Colorado Center for the Blind and our programs for blind people of all ages, making 2021 one of the best we’ve been lucky enough to experience on Colorado Gives Day. And we’ve been part of it from the very beginning.

So, we are more grateful than ever for the incredible support of our community in one of the more difficult years any of us may have experienced.

Every year except 2020, we’ve held a big Thanksgiving meal in November. Students prepare for weeks in advance in their Home Management class, baking pumpkin and pecan pies, yeast rolls, turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, dressing and cranberries, plus some other dishes.… Read the rest “Thank You for Our Best Colorado Gives Day, EVER! #Gratitude”

  • Grateful That Lives Change at the Colorado Center for the Blind #COGives

Seniors - Dee, Duncan, Diane, Anahit

There’s a lot to be thankful for at the Colorado Center for the Blind. As many families like yours will do today as they gather around the table, our staff and students shared what we were thankful for at our CCB family’s Thanksgiving feast one week ago. Not surprisingly, we are all grateful for one another and the Colorado Center for the Blind.

For our students, they expressed gratitude for the bonds of friendship and support they now share with both their instructors and fellow students, bonds that will last far past the day each student receives his or her Freedom Bell at graduation.… Read the rest “Grateful That Lives Change at the Colorado Center for the Blind #COGives”

  • How to get full, really and thankfully full on FAST Saturday!

    -

Saturday, November 10 was a full day – full of learning and, by about 1:30, we were all just full. Twenty-four came for our FAST (Fun Activities and Skills Training) Thanksgiving meal. A mix of blind youth, parents, teachers, staff and volunteers (and one little brother) made an early Thanksgiving meal, substituting chickens for a turkey. Everybody got a hand in the preparations and the feast that followed! Four parents also took the opportunity to practice skills under sleepshades, doing everything from slicing carrots to taking pies from the oven.

Yes, we’re full of thanks for all who came, for the teenagers hanging out by the piano after it was all put away, and for the leftovers, naturally!

There was plenty on Thursday, November 16 – plenty to eat and to be thankful for at our 100-percent student-prepared Thanksgiving Feast!

It’s tradition at the Colorado Center for the Blind to hold our own Thanksgiving feast before we break for visits to family and friends on the official holiday. Our students cook it all with the guidance of our unparalleled Home Management staff, and there are always a lot of “firsts”.

For example, every year there are students who have never seen what a turkey looks like just out of the refrigerator. So on Tuesday, with serving gloves on, students examined and explored the four turkeys that eventually became our dinner.… Read the rest “Plenty to be thankful for: Our 2017 #Thanksgiving Feast!”
