Celebrating Our Senior Programs in New Video!
We’re proud of our senior programs and how they have changed the lives of seniors who have lost vision and the people who love them. We’re excited about how those programs continue to grow – from the residential Seniors in Charge (twice a year), to four support groups (one in Spanish), to ever-expanding opportunities to…

Sleepshades, Cinnamon Pudding Cake & Seniors In Charge May 2017
You wouldn’t have needed to be told that Dorine’s Cinnamon-Pudding Cake was an award-winner if you had been anywhere near the Center’s kitchen this afternoon. It’s our spring Seniors in Charge week, and we have five dynamic seniors determined to keep living the lives they want. This afternoon, of course, they were cooking and baking…

Seniors Attend Audio-described Production of “Mama Mia”
Here’s a pic of some of our seniors at Chili’s last Saturday, after attending the audio-described performance of “Mama Mia” at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. The Seniors used it as a fund-raiser, raising over $200. They keep a small donation fund going to help out with the expenses of various Senior activities…

First Day Back: 2017 Is Underway!
Classes started today for 2017, and on top of that it’s Tuesday – meaning that Seniors came in to the Center as well! After two weeks off folks were pretty happy to be back in spite of a bit of cold weather! Here is a collection of sights and sounds from the day, and here’s…

Not Exactly Winding the Year Down
We’re in our final week – final days, really – of the 2016 year at the Colorado Center for the Blind. It’s not exactly like winding down, but more like an all-cylinders-open surge for the finish line. Alejandro went on a support drop yesterday, and is cooking a big meal tomorrow. Ryan served his mini-meal…

Perez’s Mini-meal & the Mushroom Thief
The kitchens at CCB are just a few steps away from the lobby where Robert mans the front desk and management offices are located. Because our students are constantly cooking up amazing things in the kitchens, the odors filling the lobby area are sometimes maddenly wonderful. That was certainly the case a few weeks ago…

Belted Kingfisher, Orange Belts and Yoga’s Doggie Down: A Typical Tuesday at CCB
So this is how Tuesday goes at CCB sometimes. First thing this morning Alie Mays came for our “Birdying by Ear” class. Seven of us reviewed recordings of local bird songs, then walked over to Sterne Park, where we heard mallards, doves, goldfinches and of course Canada geese. Today’s mascot was the belted kingfisher, an…

From Super Bowl Parade to Freedom Bells: A Video Retrospective of 2016
Got about 20 minutes to be wowed? We’re just back from our 2016 National Federation of the Blind of Colorado Convention in Lone Tree from October 27 to 30. All staff and students attended and, since we’re an NFB training center (the NFB of Colorado started the Center in 1988), Executive Director Julie Deden always…

No let-up this week – not with Seniors in Charge!
Littleton’s 2016 Western Welcome Week, including our tours and participation in the Saturday parade, was sure a lot of fun! This week has already seen Matt complete his support drop, our canoeing trip postponed due to thunder, our first rock climbing trip today for the (really?) fall! Even as the 10-day Western Welcome Week celebration…

A Littleton Slugger, Independent Travel, Fear and Progress
Warren completed his woodshop project this week. We’ll call it a “Littleton Slugger”, which he turned on the mini-lathe. He plans to have all his instructors sign it when he graduates and returns home to Philadelphia. Wednesday Brigid successfully completed her support drop and Marlene went on her solo drop. Oh yeah, Marlene made it…
